Life and Work with Joy Conley by SD Voyager

Thank you SD Voyager

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Conley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started roughly ten years ago with an apparel line Bleu Temple. It was a casual lifestyle brand that sold worldwide in over 100 shops. I did all the manufacturing in Los Angeles, which was very important to me. Overtime costs were rising and we needed to go overseas for manufacturing. Being a mom of two young children and still wanting to keep the jobs the United States, I decided not to do so and shut the brand.

About six months later my daughter, London, came to me with an idea to sell well-priced beautiful jewelry online. She felt she had solved the manufacturing problem as we wouldn’t be designing the jewelry ourselves. And so, Joy of London Jewels began.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always struggles with new businesses and the important part is to believe in yourself and keep pressing on. Don’t give up and don’t let people discourage you.

Please tell us about Joy of London Jewels.
Joy of London Jewels brings one of the largest online boutiques jewelry directly into the privacy of someone’s home. People can shop online 24 hours a day, seven days a week allows its people to look for things they would like, try them and send back if it doesn’t work. We do a lot of custom shopping for ladies. Many of them want to upgrade from their original jewelry, some like travel jewelry, some just like different jewelry for different events.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I am a big Pinterest fan. I like to see what’s going on with the trends but I mostly seek out items that I really like and create unique combinations I would wear.
